Homeschoolers at Audubon Celebrate 'Food! Glorious Food!'

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – “Food, Glorious Food!” will be the subject for homeschoolers at the Audubon Center and Sanctuary on Wednesday, February 2, 2011.

Audubon holds three Home School Days each year, fall, winter, and spring. Home school families are invited to come to this winter event for a day devoted to food!

The lesson will be based on materials from Project Food, Land and People for older kids and Growing Up Wild for early childhood. There will be manuals available for parents to look at and information on where they can get the manuals for home school curriculum.

The morning lesson will run from 10 am until noon, with children in small groups rotating between stations. An optional hike with a naturalist is offered 1-3 pm after bring-your-own lunch.

The cost for the morning activity is $5 per child (under 3 are free); the afternoon is $3 per person.  Deadline for reservations is Monday, January 31. Reservations can be made by calling the Audubon Center at (716) 569-2345.

The Audubon Center and Sanctuary is at 1600 Riverside Road, off Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. Hours are 10 am-4:30 pm Mondays and Saturdays, and 1-4:30 pm Sundays. The trails and Bald Eagle viewing are open dawn to dusk every day.  To learn more, call (716) 569-2345 or visit jamestownaudubon.org.
