Youth Symphony Fund Drive Nearing Close

Jamestown, NY – The Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony’s (CRYS) annual fund drive will be closing soon.

“We really appreciate all the support we receive from the community,” said CRYS board president Katie Derrenbacher. “In order to best acknowledge that support, we need to hear from folks soon.”

CRYS is celebrating its 30th season of offering exceptional music opportunities to talented and motivated young musicians.

The three orchestras sponsored by the Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony are Prelude Strings for beginning string players, Young Artists Orchestra for intermediate musicians, and the String Chamber Orchestra of advanced musicians in high school and college.

Weekly rehearsals are led by Music Director and Conductor Bryan Eckenrode, with additional coaching by other professionals. Students pay tuition for their training, but significant assistance is provided to those who need it.

In late April, CRYS students will take a trip to hear the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra perform “Star Wars and More: The Best of John Williams.” The trip will include supper at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and a backstage get-together with some of the orchestra members.

CRYS receives important support from foundations and other organizations in the community. While parents, board members, and students participate in fund raising events, donations from individuals and local businesses are essential.

Among the ways CRYS shows appreciation for its contributors are by recognitions on its website and in printed concert programs and complimentary admissions to its Spring Gala Concert. This year’s performance will be Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Chautauqua Institution’s Elizabeth S. Lenna Hall.

While expressing gratitude for a recent generous contribution from Robinson Law Office, Derrenbacher said, “We need to hear from all our supporters by April 15 to be sure they receive the recognition they deserve.”

Tax-deductible donations to the Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony can be mailed to P. O. Box 3454, Jamestown, NY  14702.
