Jamestown, NY – The United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County (UAA) is awarding grants to artistic projects of five Chautauqua County non-profit organizations and two local artists.

“It’s hard to imagine Chautauqua County without all of the wonderful cultural opportunities and talented artists that reside here,” UAA President Shane Hawkins said, in announcing the recipients of the 2017 Projects Pool Grants Program. “The United Arts Appeal is happy to be able to support local artists and arts programming through our Projects Pool grants.”

To be eligible to apply for these awards, organizations had to have non-profit status. Individuals must have been Chautauqua County residents for at least one year and could work in any artistic discipline. After being screened for eligibility and fulfillment of requirements, applications were reviewed by an advisory panel made up of artists and community leaders. Their recommendations were then reviewed for approval by the United Arts Appeal board.

The United Arts Appeal 2017 grants are awarded to:

   Individual Artists:

  • Catherine Walsh: Strengthening the Circle: Center Circle Ceramics
  • Liag Zeppetello: Fine Art Oil Painting

   Organizations:

  • 96th Highlanders Pipes and Drums, Inc.: Jamestown Regional Celtic Festival and Gathering of the Clans
  • Audubon Community Nature Center: Rebel Nature Journals
  • Citizens for a Better Cassadaga: Concerts on Cassadaga Lake
  • Jamestown Parks, Recreation & Conservation Dept.: 2017 Summer Bandshell Concert Series
  • Patterson Library: Music Together with Kay Barlow

In addition to funding for individual artists and smaller art projects through the Projects Pool Grants Program, the United Arts Appeal provides operating support for seven of the larger arts organizations in Chautauqua County. These include the Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet, Community Music Project, 1891 Fredonia Opera House, Infinity Visual and Performing Arts, Jamestown Concert Association, Lucille Ball Little Theatre of Jamestown, and the Western New York Chamber Orchestra.

The United Arts Appeal is supported by Chautauqua County, local foundations, corporations, businesses and individuals throughout the county. For more information about the UAA, including performances offered by member organizations, visit www.UnitedArtsAppeal.org.
