Audubon Photo Contest Winner from NYC Visits Nature Center

Jamestown, NY – Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) Program Director Jennifer Schlick was delighted to present a prize in person to one of Audubon’s 2017 Nature Photography Contest winners.

Kyra Bettwy, a seventh grader who lives in New York City, spends summers with her family visiting her grandparents, John and Marie Plumb, and enjoying the outdoors in Randolph, New York. She saw the announcement of the Photography Contest online when she was signing up to run in Audubon’s Wild 5K Run/Walk in July.

The categories for entries in the contest are Landscapes, Plants, Wildlife, and Audubon Community Nature Center, with Adult and Youth Divisions in each category.

Learn Botanical Drawing and Painting in Three Sessions at Audubon

Jamestown, NY – Audubon Community Nature Center is offering a unique opportunity to learn “The Art of Botanical Drawing and Painting.”

In three Saturday morning sessions presented by two artists on staff, you can learn the basics of nature drawing and painting from observation.

Ruby Miller and Kim Turner will tag team instruction from 9 a.m. to noon on October 7, 14, and 21, 2017. Deadline for registration is Monday, September 25.

Artists and naturalists alike can benefit from this workshop. Beginners and seasoned artists are invited to hone their observation skills while developing drawing and watercolor techniques.

The sessions will progress each week, culminating with a finished watercolor painting of a botanical study. The methods used throughout the workshop are inspired by Agathe Ravet-Haevermans’s book, The Art of Botanical Drawing: An Introductory Guide.

Join Explore Buffalo and Imagine: Hamburg from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, for a rare opportunity to see the interior of historic homes in one of Erie County’s charming villages! On this Autumn Tour of Homes, approximately 10 home interiors will be open to view and admire. Take a look at some incredible 19th century interiors that have been painstakingly maintained or restored by their owners. In addition, the Village of Hamburg business community will be participating with special offerings on the day of the tour including live music, wine tasting and even a real steam engine!

Fall Art Activities Planned at Enjoy The Journey Art Gallery

A wide variety of interesting classes and exhibits are upcoming during the fall season at Enjoy The Journey Art Gallery, 1168 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca.

“One Trip and Three Rooms” is an exhibit of collages created using painted papers by artists Paulette Krakowski and Suzanne Borowicz. This exhibit takes collage artwork to another level; it was a year in the making after the artists took a summer workshop last year from internationally known artisan Elizabeth St. Hilaire. The opening reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, and the exhibit will remain on display through Sept. 30.

Jamestown, NY – Nature and landscape photographer Monika Garami will be the presenter at the Audubon Nature Photography Club’s regular meeting on Thursday evening, September 14.

“Sky shots” and “Depth of field” are the topics for the image review that opens the meeting at 6:15 p.m. You are invited to come and see how members interpret and portray each subject 

There will also be a show-and-tell time when members can show off some of their best pictures.
