New Experimac - Orchard Park Store to Celebrate Grand Opening of First Buffalo Location

West Seneca residents Jeff and Gina Siepierski had talked about opening their own retail store for several years, one that would not only utilize their combined skills and talents but serve their community as well. And on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17-18, that dream meets reality with the grand opening of Experimac - Orchard Park at 3229 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park, in the old Nothnagle Realty space in the Tops/Lowe’s Plaza near Moe's.

Experimac - Orchard Park, which held a soft opening at its new location on Nov. 14, has a wide selection of certified pre-owned products in stock. You can buy, sell, trade, repair, upgrade and accessorize pre-owned Apple computers and laptops, iPhone devices, iPad tablets, Apple Watch, Apple TV and more.

Rural Outreach Center Serves Multiple Families During Holiday Season

Rural Outreach Center Serves Multiple Families During Holiday Season

The Rural Outreach Center (ROC), an East Aurora-based nonprofit organization dedicated to ending rural poverty in southern Erie County and surrounding areas and assisting, empowering and elevating individuals to self-sufficiency, assisted numerous local families throughout the holiday season.

“The Rural Outreach Center invited 51 families and over 90 children to receive donated gifts for Christmas,” said ROC Executive Director Frank Cerny. “Families were selected primarily on their work in setting and working toward personal goals toward self-sufficiency as this is part of the ROC’s model of assisting, empowering and elevating participants.”

More than 70 individuals and organizations helped make this happen by purchasing thousands of dollars in gifts, gift cards and non-food items for distribution. “The community response was overwhelming,” Cerny added.

Land Donation Protects Lakeshore Forest; Land Conservancy Seeks Community’s Help to Cover Costs

Last spring, a generous landowner donated a beautiful eight-acre forest on a bluff overlooking Lake Erie in Derby to the Western New York Land Conservancy. The Land Conservancy is a non-profit land trust that protects forests, farms and scenic vistas forever, including places like the Stella Niagara Preserve in Lewiston and The Owens Falls Sanctuary in Aurora.

The Lakeshore Forest is the Land Conservancy’s first preserve directly on Lake Erie. There is very little natural land like this left along the shoreline. The forest has trees that are more than 100 years old. Many birds find food and shelter in these trees during their long spring and fall migrations. Scattered wetlands provide habitat for frogs, toads and salamanders.

At Buffalo Solar Solutions, Old-fashioned Customer Service Meets Today’s Technology

When South Buffalo residents Tyler and Alicia Uebelhoer decided to open Buffalo Solar Solutions in the Summer of 2015, they poured their personal savings into the business venture and dedicated themselves to providing customers with the best possible service and a pressure-free sales approach. While it took a tremendous amount of effort — not to mention a lot of blood, sweat and tears — to get the business off the ground, the entire Western New York community is beginning to see the benefits.

Now going on two years old, the company no longer operates out of the Uebelhoer’s home. Showing steady growth every month, the employees of Buffalo Solar Solutions have worked out of their new office at 1212 Abbott Road, Suite A, since October.

The Buffalo Chapter of Girl Develop It (GDI Buffalo) will once again host the region’s only all-women hackathon, GDI Hacks powered by AT&T, and has expanded it based on the popularity of last year’s event. The event, which will take place on Saturday, November 12th, 2016 from 8 am - 9 pm at the DIG Innovation Center, will be the second all-women hackathon in the region’s history and will expand the number of participants to 70 and double the number of businesses and nonprofits that can take part to 10. During the hackathon, teams of web developers, innovators, technologists, designers and marketing experts will be challenged to provide several area women and minority owned businesses or nonprofits with new or updated websites that they otherwise could not afford or have the expertise to do on their own.
