Jamestown, NY – The American Red Cross has an urgent need for blood.

Over the holidays, Audubon Community Nature Center hosted a Red Cross blood drive for the first time ever. It was a busy day, with people who had never been to the Nature Center before and people who had never given blood before.

On Tuesday, April 4, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Audubon will again offer the opportunity to give the gift of life with the same incentive: “A Pint for a Pound.”

For every pint of blood donated, the Red Cross will gift a pound of Conewango Blend birdseed for the donor AND one pound to Audubon. Donors can choose either to take home their pound, or donate it for Audubon’s feeders.

Conewango Blend is a mix of birdseed especially formulated by Audubon’s own experts to attract a wide array of birds to your feeders.

After filling local needs first, the American Red Cross has the ability, through their national inventory system, to move blood around the country wherever and whenever it is most needed.

Remember to bring a photo ID, eat well and drink plenty of water before coming to donate. Wear comfortable, loose clothing. Prepare to spend between an hour and an hour and a half donating blood. Then take time to view the Nature Center exhibits and the birds at the feeders.

Appointments are preferred, but not required. For questions regarding eligibility or to schedule an appointment, phone 1-800-733-2767 or go online to www.redcrossblood.org.

Audubon Community Nature Center is at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown, New York, and Warren, Pennsylvania. To learn more, call (716) 569-2345 or visit auduboncnc.org.

Audubon Community Nature Center builds and nurtures connections between people and nature by providing positive outdoor experiences, opportunities to learn about and understand the natural world, and knowledge to act in environmentally responsible ways.
