Audubon Community Nature Center Volunteer Day: Saturday, April 22

Audubon Community Nature Center Volunteer Day: Saturday, April 22

Jamestown, NY – Audubon Community Nature Center invites you to celebrate Earth Day by giving back.

You can join the fun on Saturday, April 22, when staff and volunteers will be working hard to make Audubon’s buildings and grounds more beautiful and friendly for visitors and the wildlife residents. Folks of every age and ability work rain or shine and have a blast doing it. After all the hard work, lunch is provided to all volunteers.

Here’s how it works.

You are asked to sign up ahead of time so staff can better plan for the day.

After registering that morning, you choose a crew to work with on a specific project. Projects include pulling non-native plants, planting native seeds and shrubs, sprucing up the gardens, picking up trash as part of Roadside Cleanup, and more.

You’ll be dirty and tired at the end of it all, but oh-so-satisfied with all you accomplished. Then stay and enjoy lunch with your fellow workers.

Rural Outreach Center Seeks Volunteers During National Volunteer Month

Rural Outreach Center Seeks Volunteers During National Volunteer Month

Located in East Aurora, the Rural Outreach Center (ROC) provides numerous programs that help people help themselves. These programs include support groups for adults, children’s initiatives such as the successful snack pack and school reading readiness programs, and much more.

“Our outreach is expanding every day to enable us to meet the needs of more participants,” said ROC Program Director Sue Giovino. “This could not be possible without the myriad of volunteers that already offer their time, talents and hearts to the ROC, but we’re requesting more volunteer support so we can do even more in Western New York’s rural communities.”

Give a Pint Get a Pound at Audubon’s Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, April 4

Give a Pint Get a Pound at Audubon’s Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, April 4

Jamestown, NY – The American Red Cross has an urgent need for blood.

Over the holidays, Audubon Community Nature Center hosted a Red Cross blood drive for the first time ever. It was a busy day, with people who had never been to the Nature Center before and people who had never given blood before.

On Tuesday, April 4, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Audubon will again offer the opportunity to give the gift of life with the same incentive: “A Pint for a Pound.”

For every pint of blood donated, the Red Cross will gift a pound of Conewango Blend birdseed for the donor AND one pound to Audubon. Donors can choose either to take home their pound, or donate it for Audubon’s feeders.

Conewango Blend is a mix of birdseed especially formulated by Audubon’s own experts to attract a wide array of birds to your feeders.

Rural Outreach Center Receives Donation From United Capital

The Rural Outreach Center (ROC) recently received a $2,750 donation from United Capital, a national wealth management firm with an office in Western New York.

Through United Capital's national “Help4Hearts” program, local offices generate $250 to donate toward a charity of their choice for every client referral they receive and meet with. The program is designed to help regional offices improve lives in their communities while growing their local practices.

The ROC provides wrap-around services to rural communities in southern Western New York, helping individuals and families move toward independence. In 2016, the ROC served over 1,500 people, working to empower them toward their personal goals.
