Jamestown, NY – Just a few minutes from either Jamestown or Warren, the Audubon Center and Sanctuary’s extended holiday hours make it a wonderful destination for a family outing.
While closed December 24 and 25, the Audubon Center will be open Wednesday-Friday, December 26-29 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with special programs scheduled. The Center will also be open on Saturday, December 30, and Monday, December 31.
On Wednesday morning, December 26, a behind-the-scenes tour will show visitors how Audubon cares for Liberty, its non-releasable bald eagle.
Thursday and Saturday mornings, December 27 and 29, will feature walks with staff naturalists along Audubon’s trails to learn the surprising amount of outdoor nature activity that goes on during the winter.
Christmas with the Critters on Friday morning, December 28 is a time to get “up close and personal” with Audubon’s education animals. The Nature Center building is home to a variety of live reptiles and amphibians, including a garter snake, American toad, leopard frog, and spring peeper. Tanks of fish and a variety of turtles entertain and educate.
All these special events begin at 10 a.m.
The Audubon Center and Sanctuary is at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren,
Normal winter hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mondays and Saturdays and 1-4 p.m. on Sundays. Members and children are admitted to the exhibits free of charge; non-member adults pay only $5. Sunday is a free admission day.
There is no charge to walk, snowshoe or cross country ski the trails or see Liberty, Audubon’s non-releasable bald eagle, from dawn until dusk every day. Liberty is in her own outdoor enclosure behind the Nature Center building.
