Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market to Host Indoor Winter Market at Buffalo State

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, in partnership with the Elmwood Village Association and SUNY Buffalo State, announced today that for the very first time, the popular market will continue during the winter months at an indoor location. The market, which typically concludes its seasonal run on the last Saturday of November, will now continue from Dec. 5, 2015, through April 30, 2016, in Buckham Hall on the Buffalo State campus, 1300 Elmwood Ave. Buckham Hall is located on Rockwell Road near Grant Street. Free parking will be available on campus during market hours.

The new winter market will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and will feature approximately 15 to 20 vendors each week. The market will return to its location in the park, at the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway in Buffalo’s historic Elmwood Village, on May 7, 2016.

“The inaugural winter market will run on Dec. 5, 12 and 19 before taking a two-week vacation during the holidays, and will then resume on Jan. 9 and run through the end of April,” said Stewart Ritchie, president of the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market board of directors. “We are extremely excited to have found a nearby location to accommodate our vendors, and we now look forward to serving our loyal customers year-round thanks to our new winter location.”

“The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market is a long-standing and much-beloved part of the Elmwood Village community, and we are thrilled to see the market expand to a year-round endeavor,” said Carly Battin, executive director of the Elmwood Village Association. “Access to fresh fruits and vegetables and locally-made food and beverages is both an asset to residents and a wonderful way to support and foster our local farmers and small businesses. We’re very pleased and thankful that SUNY Buffalo State is opening up their campus to provide this neighborhood amenity, and hope that this market continues to strengthen the bond between the campus and the surrounding community."

“Buffalo State is very excited about hosting the winter farmers’ market,” added Susan A. McCartney, special advisor to the Provost for Economic Development at Buffalo State. “The market represents an exceptional economic eco-system: local, sustainable and entrepreneurial. Further, the winter market will benefit our campus constituents, our neighbors and our community. Plus, our residential students are going to love it!”

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market is a producer-only market, meaning all vendors grow or produce what they sell — no middlemen and no compromises. Patrons know they are dealing directly with the source, helping to create a diverse and healthy local economy. For more information regarding the market, please visit www.elmwoodmarket.org.
