Travel back in time to the 1860s and enter the world of a Civil War soldier. As a newly enlisted private, you will don your uniform, shoulder your musket, and march off to a new adventure!

Your Civil War Adventure Camp experience offers an authentic and unique hands-on adventure for groups, families, and individuals alike! Supported by a variety of programming venues, Camps are customized based on the skills and knowledge levels of each group.

The Civil War Adventure Camp, America’s newest participatory experience, immerses participants in the life of a Civil War soldier. Fun and educational, adults and children alike will select their choice of a Union or Confederate uniform, drill in the way soldiers fought, eat the food soldiers ate, understand the hardships soldiers endured and participate in a number of specifically designed programs that transform history into reality!

On this land, soldiers fought bravely during the Battle of Harmon Road on October 2, 1864. Exactly six months later, 14,000 Union soldiers launched a massive assault that completely overran the Confederate line. This battle caused an irreparable breach in Gen. Robert E. Lee’s defenses southwest of Petersburg, forcing Lee to withdraw his army from Petersburg and Richmond.

The Civil War Adventure Camp’s reconstructed encampment is equipped with a Cookhouse, Field Hospital, and fly tents for programming. The haunting melody of Taps signals the end of a soldier’s day as privates settle in for the evening. Sleeping accommodations include recreated four-person huts and fourteen-person barracks with wood burning stoves, plus five two person-tents on platforms

As new recruits, your squad will train to move as one. Armed with muskets you will practice basic maneuvers and weaponry care. After drilling, a hot authentic Civil War-era meal satisfies your hunger. Later, you will learn how to communicate with fellow soldiers using signal flags, and participate in a medical program.

As darkness approaches, the light of lanterns and the smell of the campfire heighten one's senses. The haunting melody of Taps signals to soldiers a time to rest.

Awakened by the bugler’s call the next morning, you must prepare yourself for the challenge of a skirmish, confront the enemy with the firing of a mortar, and possibly even fire a musket. *Daytime Adventures include many, but not all of the activities desribed above
