Library Closing Early Thursday For Book Sale Set Up | Events
JAMESTOWN – The James Prendergast Library in Jamestown will close at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 9, to set up for its 32nd annual two-day book sale. No regular library services will be available during the event.
The sale will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, June 10, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 11.
All books are divided into categories and labeled by topic such as business, health and fiction for sale on the main floor. Collectors’ items, rare books, encyclopedias, books in sets, and books in especially good condition are displayed in the Special Room to the left of the library entrance.
Non-book items such as records, audio cassettes, sheet music, videos, DVDs and CDs are for sale upstairs in the art gallery, which is accessible by elevator. Prices have not increased since 1991.
“The Prendergast book sale is the largest in Western New York. This year we’ll offer close to 50,000 items for browsers with a lot of variety and some real treasures waiting to be discovered,” said Library Director Catherine Way.
According to Ms. Way, “The event is a crucial fund-raising event because proceeds are used to buy new books and other library materials.”
Most of the items for sale- are donated by the community.
