JAMESTOWN – The Robert H. Jackson Center will screen “The Verdict” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, as the sixth in its series of legal movies recommended by the American Bar Association.

Paul Newman plays a Boston lawyer making a comeback in this emotionally charged drama about medical malpractice. Although all parties are willing to settle out of court, he decides to seek justice by taking the case to trial.  

Other cast members are Charlotte Rampling, Jack Warden, James Mason, Milo O’Shea, Edward Binns, Julie Bovasso, Lindsay Crouse, Roxanne Hart and James Handy. Bruce Willis appears as a courtroom spectator.

Sidney Lumet directs. The screenplay is by David Mamet from a novel by Barry Reed. This 1982 movie runs 129 minutes and is rated R. It received 4 stars in Leonard Maltin’s 2011 Movie Guide.   

The remaining movie in the legal series at the Jackson Center is “Philadelphia” set for April 13.

All of the films are free and open to the public. Prendergast Library and the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation are cooperating to present the series.
