On the 6th of November, the 150th anniversary of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, was being celebrated. This election shall in many avenues, change the fact of this nation from hence forth. The 1860 election proved to be one of the most momentous in American history at it came at a time of national crisis, and brought Abraham Lincoln to the Presidency.

The man viewed many as an abolitionist or black Republican who fought the war for the freedom of the slave, is not as you would be lead to believe. Today, he by some is viewed as a racist in some respects.

Audubon Center Offers Extended Holiday Hours

JAMESTOWN, NY – Just a few short minutes from either Jamestown or Warren, the Audubon Center and Sanctuary’s extended holiday hours make it a wonderful destination for a family outing!

The Audubon Center will be open Thursday, December 23 and from Sunday, December 26, through Thursday, December 30, from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm with Sunday hours of 1-4:30 pm. The Center is closed on Christmas and New Year’s eves and days. Beginning Sunday, January 2, it will return to regular winter hours: 10-4:30 Saturdays and Mondays and 1-4:30 on Sundays.

The Nature Center building houses fun, hands-on displays for all ages, with mounted animals plus live reptiles and amphibians, including a garter snake, American toad, leopard frog, spring peeper, and wood frog.  Tanks of fish and a variety of turtles entertain and educate.  

"Christmas in the Village" Event Cancelled

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Chautauqua Children's Safety Education Village, Inc. regrettably announced Thursday that their "Christmas in the Village" event scheduled for this weekend (December 11th & 12th) will be cancelled due to poor weather conditions. 

As a results of concerns for vendors, volunteers, and families who would be coming to the village, the hosts have cancelled the event and will keep the community posted on a new date for the event.

HockeyTowneUSA Fan Fest Coming to Downtown Buffalo

The world is coming to Buffalo ... and we’re throwing a party!

HockeyTowne USA Fan Fest, four days of fun for kids, moms, dads and hockey enthusiasts, is coming to the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center in downtown Buffalo December 26-29. Admission is just $5 per person, and children 12 and under are free with a paid adult admission.

A private VIP party featuring The Boys of Summer will be held on Sunday, December 26. HockeyTowne USA Fan Fest will then open to the public from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, December 27 and Tuesday, December 28, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jamestown Arena with many Holiday Firsts

The twelfth of December brings Christmas to downtown Jamestown with a spectacular light show destined to be a YouTube hit. Words fall short of describing the dramatic, choreographed lighting of four of the most impressive buildings at the epicenter of Jamestown including the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena, the BWB Building, the Best Western and the Renaissance Building.  

Not over the top, but on top of these four buildings, Phil Papotnik and his team from Raven Sound have been working tirelessly in blizzard like conditions to set the groundwork for this innovative event. Fearless, the crew is determined to blow people away by this awesome display of lights and music. By the way, it is totally free so bring your family to enjoy the show.

That’s not all, as the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena will also lay down an artificial ice rink outside of the BWB Building that will be ready for skaters along with the Lighting Spectacular.

Prendergast Library To Offer Facebook Classes

JAMESTOWN – Prendergast Library will offer classes about Facebook from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 9 and Feb. 23, in its new Public Computer Center.

            Anyone interested in taking the class may sign up at the information desk or call 484-7135, Ext. 225.

            Library users may also call to reserve 45-minute appointments for one-on-one help with using Facebook and downloading digital audiobooks.

            The individual appointments are available now from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, and between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturdays.
