Construction halted for Chautauqua Amphitheater
News

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Construction on the Chautauqua Amphitheater has been put on hold after a restraining order was issued on Monday.

The New York State Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order on Monday that halts the construction on the Amphitheater.

The Chautauqua institution says they will continue to move forward with planning, logistics and procurement of materials.

A hearing has been scheduled for February 1.

Construction on the amphitheater had been approved in December.

The design look very similar to the current amphitheater, but changes include fewer pillar to improve sight lines, expanding the bowl with new seating, and improving accessibility, that will be ADA-compliant.

Construction of the $41.5 million project was supposed to begin in early February and continue in the months prior to the 2016 Chautauqua season. Initial work will include preparing the site, and infrastructure development.
