Frewsburg Softball Falls Short in State Semifinals | News
QUEENSBURY, N.Y. - The Frewsburg softball team lost to Greene 3-2 in the Class C New York State semifinals. It's the second straight season the Lady Bears have lost in the state semifinals.
"They gave 100 percent out there today, a couple of balls didn't bounce our way, but that's the way it is at this level. But I'm just really proud of their emotion and the plays that they made," said Frewsburg head coach Jon Blanchard.
With no score in the bottom of the fifth inning Greene's #33 Rebecca Hanrahan launched a two-run home run over the fence in left center field to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. #7 McKenzie Cass made a great defensive effort, going over the fence in an attempt to catch the home run.
Frewsburg would rally to tie things at 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning on back-to-back RBI doubles by Cass and #1 Emily Hair.
After a leadoff walk in the bottom of the sixth, Greene would score the go ahead run on a passed ball.
#16 Sam Mott led the Lady Bears going 2-3 at the plate and pitched a three-hitter on the mound.
"This season meant so much to us, it gave us so much confidence, it brought us closer with our community and we will never forget this moment," said Frewsburg's lone senior #9 Emily Foy.
Frewsburg finishes the season at 16-9 overall, the Lady Bears will lose Foy, but return ten juniors who have now made back-to-back trips to the state semifinals.
