South Buffalo Alive Announces Successful ‘Bricks in the Bowl’ Campaign

Twenty engraved bricks were added to South Buffalo Alive’s “Bricks in the Bowl” in Cazenovia Park in early September. The 20 bricks were a one-year record for the fundraising event, according to Marge Ryan, president of the nonprofit organization.

“Bricks in the Bowl” is located next to the 100-year-old Frederick Law Olmsted Shelter House in Cazenovia Park and includes 250 square feet of personalized bricks within a landscaped perimeter. Brick engraving, provided by Stone Art Memorial Co. of Lackawanna, occurs just one time per year, typically in late summer or early fall.

Public Support Needed for McClurg Fountain Restoration Project

WESTFIELD, N.Y. – A number of individuals in the Westfield area are working to restore a fountain to Moore Park, located in the center of the village. In the early 1820s a fountain was first installed in front of the McClurg Mansion (today the McClurg Museum), making it one of the earliest fountains in all of Western New York. It remained in use for an estimated 50 years, before finally being turned off in 1872 and removed not long after. Now, an effort is once again underway to bring the fountain back.
