School History Booklets Make Great Gifts

School History Booklets Make Great Gifts

To document the history of the former Mayville and Chautauqua Schools, a booklet was written by a small committee of community volunteers and published at the time of the grand opening of the Chautauqua Lake Central School building in Fall 2000. The booklet, entitled, “Chautauqua Lake Central Schools–1800 to 2000,” is still available at the Chautauqua Book Store and in the CLCS District Office for $5 each.

The booklet features photos and dates of all the one-room schoolhouses, the past and present school buildings, the transportation system, and more. For more information, please call the Chautauqua Book Store, (716) 357-2151; Chautauqua Lake Central School Community Relations Office, (716) 753-5802; or use the Contact Us button on the district website, www.clake.org.

JAMESTOWN – Prendergast Library has added 17 digital audio books about job skills to complement its new Public Computer Center.

The library has also added books, books on CD and DVDs on topics ranging from leadership to interviewing and the hidden job market.

New digital audio titles include “60 Seconds and You’re Hired,” “Public Speaking Superstar,” “The Don’t Sweat Guide to Your Job Search” and “Effective Networking.”

To access them, cardholders of automated libraries in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System log on to http://ccls.lib.overdrive.com/, install free software, select titles, check them out, and download them to a personal computer. The titles can be transferred to portable electronic devices such as mp3 players or iPods, and some can be burned to a CD.
