Higgins Announces $855,901 for Broadband Expansion in Southern Chautauqua County

Recovery Act Funds to Improve High Speed Internet Access

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) announced $855,901 in federal Recovery Act funds, released by the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Agriculture today, will support broadband expansion in southern Chautauqua County.

Congressman Higgins said, “Tom Friedman in his book, ‘The World is Flat’ discusses today’s global, web-enabled world that allows everyone to ‘plug and play,’ sharing knowledge and work, irrespective of time, distance, and geography.  The enhanced internet access made possible through these federal funds opens up a whole new world of information and opportunity for individuals and business in these Southern Chautauqua Communities, creating jobs and limitless economic potential for years to come.”

In many of the rural areas the cost of broadband deployment is prohibitive.
