Cummins Run Deadline Nears

JAMESTOWN – Friday, April 29, is the deadline to register for the fifth annual Cummins Run for Literacy with a non-refundable fee of $17. The first 200 people to sign up will receive a commemorative T-shirt.

Registration forms are available at the library or online. Forms and checks, made payable to James Prendergast Library, are to be sent to Cummins Run for Literacy, 509 Cherry St., Jamestown, N.Y., 14701. 

Cummins Inc., Jamestown Engine Plant, is sponsoring the 5K run/walk on Saturday, May 7, to benefit the Prendergast Library Literacy Center, where volunteer tutors work with adult learners on basic reading, math, and English as a second language.              

Runners begin at 9 a.m. followed by walkers five minutes later. Miles of Smiles will provide timing for the event, which begins and ends at the library.

What would Spring at Holiday Valley be without the Pond Skimming Spring Party on March 26! Pond Skimming competition registration starts at 11:00 and the skimming starts at 1:00. Also enjoy the music, cookout and a Margarita bar!

Prizes will be awarded to all pondskimmers. The top prizes will be awarded for best outfit, best skimmer, best crash and best child (age 16 and under).

All the action takes place at Yodeler...bring your friends, your lawn chair, sunglasses and swimmies...and be there!

Chautauqua, NY – Get ready for summer with a new hobby or skill during Chautauqua in June, a learning festival held in the lifelong learning tradition popularized by Chautauqua Institution more than 137 years ago.

The three week schedule from June 3 – 23, 2011 includes themed experiences in Home and Garden Techniques, Sports and Recreation, and Culinary and Wine.

Classes are held in both indoor and outdoor classrooms across Chautauqua County, a destination for leisure learning, summer camps and workshops.

The first annual “Regatta Gala” will celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Chautauqua Lake Rowing Association (CLRA).  The event will be held at the beautiful Robert H. Jackson Center (305 E. 4th Street, Jamestown) on Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 6:00pm-9:30pm. Proceeds will benefit the purchase of a new boat for the high school rowing program.

Come celebrate a great milestone for the rowing association while supporting a worthy cause!

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Jamestown Jets will host their first ever playoff series starting this Friday and Saturday at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena. The Jets were named the GMHL South Division Champions earlier this week and will face the Toronto Moose in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs.

"This is a first for us, we are confident, and I believe that we will have a great playoff atmosphere at the Arena this weekend," explained Jets head coach Dennis Canfield.

The playoff excitment is in the as the Jets and their fans look forward to their first playoff experience.
