Sports Card & Memorabilia Expo 17 Slated for April 10

WNY Sports Card & Memorabilia Expo 17, the area’s largest biannual sports card and memorabilia show featuring over 100 tables of merchandise, will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the Grapevine Banquet Hall, 333 Dick Road, Depew.

Former Buffalo Bills star Ray Bentley will be providing free autographs, with purchase, at his table during the event. He will have copies of his novel, “Driftwood,” along with copies of his popular children’s books, photos, cards and other items. 

Vendor tables will feature new and vintage sports cards, non-sports cards, packs, autographs, game programs, yearbooks, pennants, videos, vintage photos and much more. The event will feature local and out-of-state vendors, as well as dealers who are new to this show.

Beckett Card Grading Event Coming to Bases Loaded Sports Collectibles

Bases Loaded Sports Collectibles will host Charles Stabile, Northeast regional sales manager from Beckett Grading Services, from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the store, located at 794 French Road, Cheektowaga.

Beckett Grading Services provides collectors with the most thorough, consistent and accurate grading efforts available in the industry. Your BGS-graded cards will be returned in a unique, protective cardholder. Beckett uses an easy-to-understand one- to 10-point grading scale to rate sports cards, which are graded on four key categories: Centering, corners, edges and surface. Grades from each of these key categories will be considered in determining your card's final overall grade. Beckett also grades non-sports cards, photos, magazines, pocket schedules, gaming cards and tickets.

Athlete Signing Times Announced for Huge Sports Collectors Expo in Batavia

Nearly 30 former football, baseball, basketball and hockey players and coaches — including members of the Buffalo Bills, Braves and Sabres — are scheduled to appear at the Sports Collectors Expo Feb. 20 and 21 in Batavia. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Batavia Downs Gaming Center, 8315 Park Road, Batavia.

Athlete signing times have recently been announced. Scheduled to appear on Saturday, Feb. 20, are:
11 a.m. to noon: Claude Humphrey, Joe Altobelli, Gilles Villemure, Don Luce
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Ray Bentley
12 to 1 p.m.: Sammy Stewart, Dave Ford, Tim Stoddard, Al Bumbry, Bill Swaggerty
1 to 2 p.m.: Adrian Dantley, Jim McMillian, Ernie DiGregorio, Jack Marin, Gar Heard
2 to 3 p.m.: Walt Patulski, Scott Norwood, Jim Lorentz, Ruben Brown, Gabe Northern

The Buffalo Auto Show, Western New York’s premier new vehicle automotive event, makes its annual return to the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center Feb. 11-14, and along with the latest and greatest new vehicles, visitors will also have a chance to see some very special guests!

Three members of the Buffalo Bandits — Ryan Benesch, David Brock and Dhane Smith — will appear at the Auto Show from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, to sign autographs and have photos taken with their fans. Several members of the Buffalo Bandettes, the professional dance team for the Buffalo Bandits, will also be on hand to greet fans!

Learn to Make Maple Syrup at the Nature Center

Jamestown, NY – For a sweet experience, the Audubon Nature Center is presenting a workshop on The Art of Making Maple Syrup.

This opportunity to learn the basic principles and procedures to make maple syrup will be held on Saturday morning, January 30, at the Nature Center. It will be followed by a trip to Uncle Rick’s Sugar House in Ashville, New York, in March.

The 10-11:30 a.m. program will begin in the Nature Center’s multipurpose room, where a slide show and lecture will describe what it takes to make maple syrup.  Instructor Rick Rupprecht will bring samples of the equipment he uses and talk about alternatives that are available.  A quick walk outside will help you learn to look closely at branches and bark to identify a sugar maple from the other trees in the yard by looking closely at branches and bark.

Jamestown, NY – For a fun winter experience, it’s hard to beat snowshoeing.

Whether you have snowshoed before or are looking to try a new winter activity, you are invited to join a snowshoe hike at the Audubon Nature Center on Saturday afternoon, January 23. Snowshoes are available for rent from Evergreen Outfitters or you can bring your own.

Beginning at 1 p.m., you can snowshoe on the trails with a naturalist, looking for signs of animals, finding insects that are active in the winter, and seeing how plants handle the cold temperatures. If it grabs the group’s attention will be explored. General nature knowledge will be shared, along with enthusiasm and curiosity.

Former Buffalo Bills scheduled to appear include Bruce Smith, Andre Reed, Marv Levy, Steve Tasker, Scott Norwood, Ruben Brown, Ray Bentley, Jeff Nixon, Walt Patulski, Billy Shaw, Al Bemiller and Ed Rutkowski. In addition to the Bills, Hall of Famer Claude Humphrey is also scheduled to appear at the show.

NHL players on the appearance roster include former Buffalo Sabres Don Luce and Jim Lorentz, along with former Buffalo Bison and New York Rangers goalie Gilles Villemure.
