Time to Order Audubon Birdseed

Time to Order Audubon Birdseed

Jamestown, N.Y. – When we feed birds, we interact with nature at its most enjoyable.

Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) provides birdseed at special sales twice a year at prices that provide value for you and fundraising for the Nature Center.

The most popular seeds and mixes are offered so that you can stock up for the winter months. Conewango Blend, which is unique to ACNC, is featured, since the mix was developed to support favorite winter species such as chickadees, cardinals and titmice. There are also mixes to attract finches and suet cakes for the woodpeckers.

Saturday, September 30, 2017, is the deadline for ordering.  To place your order, call (716) 569-2345 during business hours, stop by the Nature Center, or click through the “Shop” button at auduboncnc.org.

You Can Be Part of Audubon/BOS Bird Count on Saturday, October 14

You Can Be Part of Audubon/BOS Bird Count on Saturday, October 14

Jamestown, N.Y. – If you will be anywhere in western New York on Saturday, October 14, 2017, you can join bird-lovers from four counties to report species seen that day.

The Buffalo Ornithological Society (BOS) was established in 1929 to promote the study of the birds of the Niagara Frontier Region, which includes western New York and southeastern Ontario, Canada. This region is rich in bird life, with over 380 species and 25 recognizable subspecies of birds recorded.

Every second Saturday in October since 1939, the BOS has sponsored a one-day census of all birds in the BOS territory. The date was chosen to coincide with the end of the fall migration.

Audubon Community Nature Center supports this effort that both provides a fun day of birding and generates data which make a real contribution to the understanding of local bird populations.

Audubon Nature Center Supports Fall Regional Bird Count

Audubon Nature Center Supports Fall Regional Bird Count

Jamestown, NY – The Audubon Nature Center supports the Buffalo Ornithological Society’s (BOS) ambitious effort every fall to count birds in Western New York.

Whether watching on their own property or committing to a larger area, it takes many people -- beginning to advanced birders -- to cover the four-county territory that is counted.

If you have experience in bird counting, you can be part of this important work by volunteering on Saturday October 8.  If you’re interested but inexperienced, you could observe others and learn for future counts.

The BOS count has been held every second Saturday in October since 1939.  The date was chosen to coincide with the end of the fall migration.
